Design of a Major Aquatic Centre in a UK Regional City - Foundation and Draiange Design
Group Dissertation Project at Brunel University London (2016)
This was a final year group project to create an integrated structural design for a flagship zero carbon leisure centre. With my geotechnical background, I agreed to lead on the buildings sub-structural elements. Initially, I composed a site desk study, followed by an appraisal of various building foundation design solutions and also a drainage plan incorporating sustainable urban drainage systems for the wider site. The project gave me valuable experience in coordinating a building design and working collectively within a project team to deadlines.
Soil stablisation of artificial soils with paper sludge ash
Individual Dissertation Project at Brunel University London (2015)
This laboratory study reviewed the use of a by-product called paper sludge ash as an additive to enhance the geotechnical properties of a standard clay material. This involved the completion and analysis of British Standard soil classification and performance tests on an assortment of stabilised soil specimens.
Soil Stabilisation of Sulphate Bearing Clays with Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag
Industrial Placement Report at Brunel University London (2014)
This report completed during my university placement year assessed the performance of ground granulated blast furnace slag as a soil stabilisation additive for sulphate abundant clays at controlled various moisture contents.
An investigation into coastal erosion in Happisburgh and its relationship with the housing market
Extended Project Qualification in Geographical Information Systems at Colchester Sixth Form (2013)
At college I completed a personal study project looking at coastal erosion in Happisburgh, Norfolk using GIS (Geographical Information Systems). I visited the vulnerable coastal town in 2011 to observe the receding shores and talk to the locals about how it has changed Happisburgh. I also contacted British Geological Survey and the Environment Agency requesting mapping data and information on the area. Using GIS software ArcMap, I managed to graphically map the change in coastline for this area over 30 years and analyse how this has impacted the housing market in the local area.Β
